Kicking Butt and Staying Strong

8 May

Gonna just share my post that I wrote this morning for Sweat Everyday (MY BUSINESS!!!). Hope you all enjoy.

Kicking Butt and Staying Strong

Reading Sacha’s previous couple of posts really got me motivated! I LOVE watching her beat the guy/red pad up.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmOnWBZD90w

I can watch that one over and over again! So inspiring! Even more inspiring after being inundated with the news the past few days of the three women who were abducted for ten years. It makes me want to be stronger and more prepared for any assailant who tries to come my way.

This is yet another reason we feel it is SO IMPORTANT to Sweat Everyday. You have to be physically and mentally strong for life because, each day it throws so much at you. Some days there are EXTREME situations that affect your health and well being.  Other times, there are hiccups that just disturb your natural flow. Taking time each day to take care of you can help build you and, make you stronger. So, when those times come you will have something within you to carry you through. Being active and staying fit is a way to build yourself; don’t forget your peace of mind too. Meditate, pray, clear your mind of the negative so you can stay strong.

Stay strong and find time today to get yourself stronger.

Kick some butt (not literally any persons behind, more of a pad, kickboxing class, martial arts type of butt kicking); it’ll help you feel better!

What are you going to do today to stay strong?

Running with a Cloud

6 Apr

Yesterday’s run was beautiful. My neighbor is training for a half marathon so, I join her on her runs. We hit the Montour Trail and there we were met by one lone cloud in the sky, perfectly shaped and, just amazing.

Our six mile run was good and, more clouds joined that one. Of course, it’s Pittsburgh and rarely is there a cloudless day! That’s ok, the clouds are beautiful.

The Sun came out Again!!

5 Apr

The last time I saw a beautiful sunny day I wrote about it and, I said I’d let you know how the next day turned out. The sun did stay out that ENTIRE DAY!  The next day it was cloudy with snow flurries, which stayed around  for the next couple of days. YES, snow flurries! Just today my neighbor told me she heard  a guy say something funny. He said, “What a nice Winter we are having this Spring” EXACTLY!!!

The sun has come out  again for a couple of more days and I think JUST MAYBE Winter will lie down and let Spring come here in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a gorgeous old city and on a sunny day it really is fun to get out, which we did the other day.

photo 3 (1)One of things I LOVE about the city are all of the beautiful old bridges. Pittsburgh is known for its bridges, which I have to admit I did not know prior to moving here (**GASP**). Hey, I am a native Californian and, well, I won’t say anything further to incriminate myself or any other Californian in regards to our sense of the continental United States geography.

photo 2 (2)It is beautiful to see these old, steel bridges throughout the entire city.  I also found a good place to run, Point State Park. The park is located at the “tip” of the triangle in Pittsburgh, where all three rivers meet. The view of the rivers, bridges, and stadiums is nice and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a beautiful day. The day we visited there were lots of folks out riding bikes, jogging, sitting around talking and just out having a good time.

I’ll be sure to get out there and go for that run, WHENEVER  Winter decides to let go and allow Spring to finally come.

Krav Maga

4 Apr

My cousin Sacha is “Ms. Krav Maga” in my opinion. She’s super fit and strong and that is very motivating. So, I got to go to her studio Krav Maga DC with her and tried it out. Check it out below (hilarious):

Have any of you tried it?

The Sun is Out

30 Mar

I woke up this morning listening to the birds sing.  I sat up in my bed thinking maybe, JUST maybe the sun is shining. Sure enough it is!!! I took a picture to capture this monumental moment.

Not a cloud in the sky. Can there really be an entire sunny day in Pittsburgh? Hmmm… I’ll let you know that after the day is done because, I have yet to see that happen. I will not dwell on that though. I will focus on the sun right now, it is shining!  Every curtain, blind and window covering in my house has been opened to let it in. I’m back to my cat status, chasing the sun-rays in the house and snuggling in the warm embrace of the ray. I better enjoy it now because I hear it is going to snow on Thursday :/

Hope it is sunny wherever you are. If so let me know!

White Bean and Turnip Soup

23 Mar

With all of this lovely cold spring weather I decided to make some soup to help us stay warm.
photo 2It was so yummy! Not to brag about it, but when I make a soup and everyone around here eats it, I feel inclined to brag. I am going to share the recipe but be mindful, you may need adjust the recipe because I am guessing the true amounts.

4 cups Chicken Broth (I use my homemade chicken broth, you can also use vegetable broth)

2 cans Northern Beans (be sure to rinse beans off before adding into pot)

5 Carrots (peeled and sliced)

1 cup green peas

1 large turnip (cut up into bite sized chunks)

2 cups spinach (fresh)

1 medium Onion (chopped)

1/2 Red onion (chopped)

2 cloves Garlic (chopped)

2 cups Chicken (optional and you can shred it or cut into small pieces)

2 teaspoons turmeric

sea salt

Trader Joe’s TJ’s Everyday Seasoning

Put everything except the spinach, and TJ’s everyday seasoning, into a large pot. Cook on medium heat until turnips are tender. Stir in spinach and season to taste. You could also put this into a slow cooker.

Enjoy and let me know how yours taste!

Spring Workout

22 Mar

Here is my weekly post for Sweat Everyday. Posted on Tuesday of this past week. Enjoy!

Yesterday marked the first day of Spring , yet for many it was still chilly. Some of us even experienced snow flurries!

Outdoor-Spring-Running-Tips

The sun DID manage to peak out and shower us with sun-rays so, April decided it was time to get outside and workout. Maybe you can go outside, bundle up and get your workout on too. It’s never too cold (ahem-ok, April’s personal too low point is  40 degrees) to stay active.

If you need a quick idea on how to jump start your spring training just see April share her quick morning workout.
